Introduction

Welcome to Thereafter. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Thereafter mobile application ("the app," "our app," or "Thereafter") operated by House Odorion ("we," "us," or "our"). Thereafter is a daily letter app where you receive letters from an anonymous friend known as The Writer, save and organize your favorites, write time capsules to your future self, and exchange anonymous letters with other users through a feature called Echoes.

By creating an account or using the app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Thereafter. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and House Odorion regarding your use of the app, and supersede any prior agreements, understandings, or representations.

Eligibility

Thereafter is intended for users who are at least 18 years of age. During onboarding, we ask you to provide your date of birth to confirm you meet this requirement. By creating an account, you represent that you are 18 or older. While we take reasonable steps to prevent underage access, we rely on the accuracy of the information you provide. We reserve the right to terminate any account we reasonably believe belongs to someone under 18.

Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account, including any PIN or biometric lock you configure. You agree not to share your account credentials with others or allow anyone else to access your account on your behalf.

You may sign in using Google or Apple. We do not create password-based accounts. If you lose access to your Google or Apple account, we may not be able to recover your Thereafter account. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile screen within the app. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. All associated data, including your profile, favorites, time capsules, reflections, conversations, and reading history, will be removed from our active database immediately upon deletion.

The Daily Letter

Each day, a new letter from The Writer is published and delivered to you at your chosen time. Letters are the same for all users on a given date. You may save letters to your favorites, organize them into groups, and share excerpts for personal, non-commercial use. The content of daily letters is owned by House Odorion and may not be reproduced, republished, or distributed for commercial purposes without our written permission.

Favorites and Groups

All users, free and premium, can save daily letters as favorites, organize them into groups, and search through their saved collection. Favourited letters and groups are private to your account and visible only to you.

Echoes (Anonymous Letters)

Echoes is a premium feature that allows you to send and receive anonymous letters with other users. When you send an Echo, it is delivered to a randomly selected recipient after a short delay. You do not choose who receives your letter, and you do not know who wrote the one you receive. A conversation thread is created automatically upon delivery, and both participants are identified only by the anonymous display name they chose during setup. Your real name, email, and personal information are never revealed to the other user.

You may send one Echo per 24-hour period. Each initial letter is checked by an automated content filter before delivery. Letters that violate our content guidelines will be blocked and not delivered. Follow-up messages within conversations are not automatically screened; please use the report feature if you encounter harmful content. You are responsible for the content you write, even when it is delivered anonymously.

Anonymity within Echoes is maintained at the application level. However, we may be required to disclose information associated with your account in response to valid legal process, including subpoenas, court orders, or lawful requests from law enforcement authorities. We do not voluntarily share your identity with other users or third parties outside of these legal obligations.

Time Capsules

Time Capsules is a premium feature that allows you to write letters to your future self. You choose a delivery date and time, and the capsule remains sealed until that moment arrives. Once delivered, you can read your original message and add a reflection. You may also organize capsules into collections and hide delivered capsules from your main list. Time capsules are private to your account. No other user can see or access your capsules or reflections.

User Conduct

You agree to use Thereafter respectfully and in a manner consistent with the spirit of the app. When using Echoes or any feature that involves communication with other users, you agree not to send content that contains threats, harassment, hate speech, slurs, or discriminatory language; send sexually explicit, violent, or graphic content; encourage self-harm or harm to others; share personal information about yourself or others (names, addresses, phone numbers, social media handles); attempt to identify, locate, or contact other users outside of the app; use the app to spam, advertise, or promote products or services; attempt to circumvent the content moderation filter; impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity beyond the anonymity the app provides; or use the app for any illegal purpose.

We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these guidelines, at our sole discretion and without prior notice.

Content Moderation and Reporting

Anonymous letters sent through Echoes are automatically screened by a content filter before delivery. This filter is designed to block harmful content including slurs, threats, harassment, and other violations of our conduct guidelines. The filter runs automatically and no human reviews your letters unless a report is submitted. While we make reasonable efforts to prevent harmful content from reaching users, no automated system is perfect. We cannot guarantee that all objectionable content will be detected or prevented, and we are not liable for content that passes through the filter.

If you receive content that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable, you can report the conversation from within the chat interface. Reports include the reason you select, any optional details you provide, and a reference to the relevant conversation. We aim to review and act on all user reports within 24 hours of receiving them. Actions may include content removal, account warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent termination, depending on the severity of the violation. Submitting a false or malicious report is itself a violation of these Terms.

You may also block any user within a conversation. Blocking hides the conversation from your inbox, prevents the other user from sending you further messages, and prevents them from being matched with you in future Echoes. Blocking is anonymous and the other user is not notified.

Content Ownership

The daily letters published in Thereafter are our original content and are protected by copyright. You may save, favorite, and share excerpts of letters for personal, non-commercial use only.

Content you create within the app, including afterthoughts, time capsules, reflections, and anonymous letters, remains yours. By sending an Echo, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to deliver that content to another user within the app as intended by the feature. This license does not extend beyond the functionality of Thereafter. We do not claim ownership of your content and will never use it for marketing, training, or any purpose outside of delivering the service.

Feedback and Suggestions

If you provide us with feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the app — whether through email, social media, app reviews, or any other channel — you grant House Odorion a perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, implement, modify, and incorporate that feedback into the app or our business without any obligation or compensation to you. You acknowledge that we may independently develop features or improvements similar to any feedback you provide.

Subscriptions and Payments

Thereafter offers a free tier and a premium subscription. The free tier includes daily letters, favorites, afterthoughts, reading stats, and profile customization. Premium unlocks Echoes, Time Capsules, and additional stationery themes. Time Capsules are subject to a limit of 500 per user.

Premium is available as a monthly subscription at $4.99 or a yearly subscription at $34.99. All payments are processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play. We do not handle your payment information directly.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless canceled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your device's App Store or Google Play settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you will retain access to premium features until that date. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods. Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google in accordance with their respective policies.

If you believe you were charged in error, contact Apple Support or Google Play Support directly, as they manage all billing for in-app subscriptions.

Availability and Changes

We strive to keep Thereafter available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The app may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, server outages, or circumstances beyond our control, including but not limited to natural disasters, infrastructure failures, acts of government, or disruptions to third-party services we depend on. We are not liable for any loss or inconvenience caused by such unavailability.

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue features of the app at any time. If we make changes that materially affect your use of a paid feature, we will provide reasonable notice through the app or via email.

Privacy

Your privacy matters to us. Our collection, use, and protection of your personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. By using Thereafter, you acknowledge that you have read and understood our Privacy Policy.

Intellectual Property

Thereafter, including its name, logo, design, interface, letter content, and underlying code, is owned by House Odorion and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works based on any part of the app without our written permission.

Disclaimers

Thereafter is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the app's reliability, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the app will be error-free, secure, or available at all times.

The letters from The Writer are creative, reflective works intended for personal enjoyment. They do not constitute professional advice of any kind, including but not limited to medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, House Odorion and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the app. This includes, but is not limited to, damages related to loss of data, loss of revenue, or emotional distress. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of Thereafter shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless House Odorion from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your use of the app, or any content you submit through the app, including anonymous letters and messages sent through Echoes.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in conduct harmful to other users, or used the app in a manner inconsistent with its intended purpose. In the event of termination, your right to use the app ceases immediately. We are not obligated to provide notice before termination, though we will make reasonable efforts to do so where circumstances allow.

You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it from the Profile screen. If you have an active premium subscription, deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription. You must cancel your subscription separately through your device's App Store or Google Play settings to avoid future charges.

Electronic Communications

By creating an account, you consent to receiving communications from us electronically, including via email and in-app notifications. You agree that all notices, agreements, disclosures, and other communications we provide electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing.

General Provisions

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms at any time does not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be made in writing to be effective.

House Odorion may assign or transfer these Terms, and any rights and obligations hereunder, to a third party in connection with a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or similar transaction, without your prior consent. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written permission.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make meaningful changes, we will notify you via the email address associated with your account or through a notice in the app. The "Last updated" date at the top will always reflect the most recent version. Your continued use of Thereafter after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
